Course Overview

A Red Hat® Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) can perform the following tasks:

  • Understand and use essential tools for handling files, directories, command-line environments, and documentation
  • Operate running systems, including booting into different run levels, identifying processes, starting and stopping virtual machines, and controlling services
  • Configure local storage using partitions and logical volumes
  • Create and configure file systems and file system attributes, such as permissions, encryption, access control lists, and network file systems
  • Deploy, configure, and maintain systems, including software installation, update, and core services
  • Manage users and groups, including the use of a centralized directory for authentication
  • Manage security, including basic firewall and SELinux configuration

It contains two modules

  • Red Hat System Administration I (RH124)
  • Red Hat System Administration II (RH134) 

Who Can be Audience

  • This course is geared toward Windows system administrators, network administrators, and other system administrators who are interested in supplementing current skills or backstopping other team members, in addition to Linux system administrators who are responsible for these tasks:
  • Configuring, installing, upgrading, and maintaining Linux systems using established standards and procedures
  • Providing operational support
  • Managing systems for monitoring system performance and availability
  • Writing and deploying scripts for task automation and system administration

Prerequisites

Basic technical user skills with computer applications on some operating systems are expected.

Exam Description

The performance-based Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) exam (EX200) tests your knowledge in areas of system administration common across a wide range of environments and deployment scenarios. The skills tested in this exam are the foundation for system administration across all Red Hat® products.

Bypassing this exam, you become a Red Hat Certified System Administrator. If you choose to continue your learning journey beyond RHCSA, the credential can also serve as a foundational step on your path toward our highest level of certification—Red Hat Certified Architect.

This exam is based on Red Hat® Enterprise Linux® 8.

Exam Format

The Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) exam is a hands-on, practical exam that requires you to undertake real-world tasks. Internet access is not provided during the in-person exam, and you will not be permitted to bring any hard copy or electronic documentation into the exam. This prohibition includes notes, books, or any other materials. For most exams, the documentation that ships with the product are available during the exam. This exam can also be taken virtually as part of our remote testing format.
